What is PPC and when should you use it?
Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC) is a blended cement made by inter-grinding OPC clinker with pozzolanic material — usually processed fly ash — and gypsum. It is manufactured to IS 1489 (Part 1).
The pozzolanic reaction keeps going for months, turning calcium hydroxide into additional binding compounds that fill micro-pores. The result is concrete that is denser, less permeable and more resistant to chemical attack over the life of the structure.
PPC is the preferred cement for plaster, masonry, mass concrete pours where heat control matters, water-retaining structures and any work where 56- or 90-day strength matters more than 28-day early strength.
PPC vs OPC — which to choose?
Choose PPC when…
You are pouring large volumes (rafts, footings, retaining walls), plastering or doing masonry, the structure faces aggressive exposure, long-term durability matters most, or you want a more economical and sustainable concrete.
Choose OPC 53 when…

Getting the best from PPC on site
- Cure longer: at least 10 days, and more in hot, dry Gujarat summers.
- Plan de-shuttering: allow for slower early strength when scheduling formwork.
- Don't mix cements: use one cement type per mix design.
- Store it right: raised platform, waterproof cover, stacks of no more than 10 bags.
